Amo Arquitectura thanks you for the invitation to the URBACT Daring Cities critical walk in Altea.

Amo Arquitectura would like to thank Altea Town Council for inviting us to participate in the critical walk held last Friday as part of the European URBACT Daring Cities programme.

During the day, we had the opportunity to visit 11 strategic points in the municipality together with a multidisciplinary group of 22 professionals. This collaborative exercise enabled an on-the-ground analysis of Altea’s urban challenges, particularly with regard to overcoming the historical disconnect between ‘l’Altea de Baix’ and ‘l’Altea de Dalt’, caused by the railway line and the municipality’s own terrain.

The tour focused on key issues such as:

  • Accessibility and removal of physical barriers.
  • Mobility and connection between the two areas.
  • The quality and design of public spaces.
  • Social cohesion and urban revitalisation.

After the tour, observations and proposals were shared that will form part of Altea’s Local Action Plan within the URBACT project, with the aim of moving towards a more liveable, inclusive and sustainable city.

What is URBACT Daring Cities?

URBACT is a European Union initiative that connects cities from different countries to exchange experiences and work on projects related to urban regeneration, sustainability and social cohesion. Specifically, the Daring Cities network brings together seven European cities seeking to rethink neighbourhoods and spaces in transition, designing more sustainable, inclusive and resilient urban models.

In the case of Altea, the project focuses on reconnecting the lower and upper parts of the municipality, revitalising the spaces in between and promoting shared governance where citizens, the administration and key stakeholders have a voice.

At Amo Arquitectura, we greatly value this experience, which reinforces our commitment to more humane, connected and sustainable urban planning.
